Green Logistics Requirements
On October 5th, 2009, President Obama signed Executive Order 13514 - Federal Leadership in Environment, Energy, and Economic Performance.  One important part of this executive order is the energy utilized during the transportation process and knowing the transportation costs relative to the carbon usage.  The GTMS product captures the carbon footprint for each leg of the supply chain and provides the tools necessary to a company to reduce both its carbon footprint while reducing transportation costs for all within the supply chain.
What does this mean and should we care?
Governmental agencies will be required within 90 days to determine their Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. And those organizations providing services to governmental agencies will have 240 days to comply with the executive order.
With the myriad of reports claiming carbon emissions (CO2), methane, and nitrous oxide or GHG are endangering our environment or those that are stating nothing has changed in the amount of emissions from as far back as 1850, we as humans have the responsibility to do whatever we can to preserve our overall environment.
According to the EPA and IPCC, the supply chain has the largest impact on GHG emissions. Currently 60% of all emissions occur from the logistics operations. And any reduction in the amount of GHG emissions is prudent to meet our corporate social responsibilities.
The reality of logistics is goods, products, or supplies are transported from one location to another location using some means of transportation. The method we choose to transport product has a huge impact on the overall cost and how much emissions are generated during the transport.
GLD Solutions has developed a special delivery process to manage the logistics operations for distribution centers, warehouses and manufacturers to achieve REAL cost reductions within the operation from savings in labor, freight costs, freight auditing, invoicing and management. In addition to cost savings, GTMS® tracks and identifies areas where reductions can be achieved in GHG emissions. On an average GTMS reduces GHG emissions by approximately 25% and utilizes the EPA/IPCC carbon emission calculations.
Transportation companies such as FedEx and UPS are improving their vehicle performance and thereby reducing their GHG output. GTMS has special capabilities for those delivery companies to associate their improved GHG performance into the GHG emission calculation on a per package basis.
The GTMS Transportation Manager identifies cost savings and GHG emission savings with an enterprise operation and with other independent companies to achieve even greater savings. Organizations most generally have to closely coordinate to achieve these opportunities, but GTMS Transportation Manager automatically does all of the coordination.
Let GLD Solutions help reduce your logistics costs and improve the environment. More importantly good logistics management saves transportation costs and time and the outcome is lower GHG emissions.
Based upon the atmospheric make-up what is the content of each element?  The far right three columns in the chart below make up GHG emissions.

Based upon commonly accepted atmospheric content the common elements are as follows:
Green house gases make up .04% of the total atmospheric content. Based upon the GHG reduction requirements of Kyoto Treaty for the United States, the United States must reduce its current GHG emissions by 20% to match 1990 levels. This is a reduction in GHG atmospheric content for the United States of .00008 (.008%) of the total overall atmosphere.
