The GTMS product has embedded into the architecture the ability to calculate the most efficient/cost effective transportation process with the lowest impact to the global environment. Carriers with higher efficiences and lower environment impact will be selected while lowering the overall transportation costs.
On October 5th, 2009, President Obama signed Executive Order 13514 - Federal Leadership in Environment, Energy, and Economic Performance. One important part of this executive order is the energy utilized during the transportation process and knowing the transportation costs relative to the carbon usage. The GTMS product captures the carbon footprint for each leg of the supply chain and provides the tools necessary to a company to reduce both its carbon footprint while reducing transportation costs for all within the supply chain.
The environmental impact for each shipment is identified based upon Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency EPA guidelines for carbon emissions for air, ocean, truck load, less-than-truckload, rail and parcel carriers. A detailed carbon footprint for individual products shipped within consolidated shipments can be identified with GTMS.
